A stretch of I-55 just south of Joliet, Illinois is proving particularly deadly this month. I wrote about a truck accident that saw two young adults die in a night-time crash. Just last week, a 14-year old girl from Oklahoma was killed when the minivan in which her family was riding was struck from behind by a tractor trailer.
Another Deadly Crash on I-55
While the details are not widely available, news reports from the Chicago Tribune indicate that the young girl was critically injured in the crash on June 15, 2015. She was transported to a local area hospital, along with other family members injured in the crash. Sadly, the young girl passed away from the following day, presumably from her injuries.
The crash was being investigated by the Illinois State Police.
Too Many Deaths
While the trucking industry is an important component to the American economy, their size and weight demand that they are heavily regulated and treated with extra care. As I wrote last month, the big trucks on our roads these days are truly massive.
Within the last two months, there were at least three people killed in truck accidents. While the investigation of these truck accidents is surely on-going, and therefore we cannot know for sure the nature of their causes, it is alarming to see so many deaths on a single, short stretch of highway over such a short period of time.
As a truck accident attorney, I’ll continue to monitor news reports and alerts for more crashes in this dangerous area.
