At Whiting Law Group, we pride ourselves on developing close-knit and long lasting relationships with our clients. Working closely with our clients to obtain justice for them, we cannot help but develop meaningful friendships with them. As a personal injury lawyer, I take great satisfaction in helping these friends obtain fair and just compensation for the wrongs that were done to them and their loved ones.
Recently, I asked a few clients to offer their thoughts and feedback on the quality of legal services that Whiting Law Group had provided over the years. I was humbled by the response I received from Sharon Schultz, whose father was killed in a truck crash. My firm represented the estate of Sharon’s dad, to achieve justice for Sharon’s mother. What follows is Sharon’s note to me.
My family and I worked closely with Tim Whiting at The Whiting Law Group from September 2003 to September 2004. My father was tragically taken from us by the negligence of an inattentive semi trailer truck driver. Prior to the accident, my mother had multiple medical conditions that required close supervision for even her basic daily functions. My father was my mother’s sole caretaker. After his early and untimely death, she could no longer stay in her own home because of her care needs and moved into a skilled nursing facility.
Tim won my mother a settlement of $750,000, one of the largest settlements won in Walworth County for a person of his age, which covered her needs and expenses for the six years she lived after my father’s death. My mother was able to be cared for in the manner she needed without the stress and worry of how to pay for her care.
Throughout this difficult and heart wrenching process, Tim became a trusted family friend with whom I still stay in close contact. Our family greatly appreciated his law expertise and skill and his compassion for our family will never be forgotten.
As an experienced trial lawyer, there are few measures of job satisfaction that can top knowing that we were able to bring comfort to a close friend in the waning years of her life.
A Significant Settlement in 12 Months
In this case, Whiting Law Group won out-of-court settlement in Walworth Co., Wisconsin for $750,000.00 for the death of Sharon’s father, Kenneth J. Runk. Mr. Runk was 82 years old when he was killed by a truck. We obtained the full amount available under the Wisconsin wrongful death caps (of $350,000.00) and were able to negotiate over the cap, arguing significant economic losses for the Sharon’s mom (Mr. Runk’s wife), who was in need of 24-hour care from her husband.
We were able to conclude the settlement in a very short period of time due to the immediate preservation of the accident scene investigation, witness statements, the preparation of a key settlement video prepared prior to settlement, and a very sophisticated economic-loss analysis. The case was resolved in less than 12 months.
